After many years working in various fields of communication I came to realize that whatever age, gender or culture you are, whether you're a boss or an employee, a highly qualified professional or an unskilled labourer, a child or a parent we all need to feel heard. I believe suppressed feelings can manifest themselves in anxiety, depression and even physical illness. I believe we all have a need to acknowledge and voice our feelings - to find the time and space to look at ourselves and discover what we might change in order to feel less stressed and more content.
With this in mind I was compelled to develop the skill of listening and explore a way of effectively helping people acknowledge, understand and communicate their feelings. I went on to achieve my professional qualification (post-graduate diploma in counselling) from Aberdeen University. I have counselled within an alcohol agency and a medical practice. I currently work with both adults and adolescents and also staff and students as part of a university counselling team.
As a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy I abide by their ethics and code of practice. I am also a member of COSCA, the professional body for counselling and psychotherapy in Scotland.
